CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
ORDINANCE NO. 442
AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE SALE OF ABANDONED VEHICLES
AFTER AN IMPOUNDMENT PERIOD OF 30 DAYS,
CREATING SECTION l4-l7l(d) OF THE SEWARD CITY CODE
WHEREAS, the number of abandoned vehicles as defined in Section
14-70 of the Seward City Code of Ordinances has increased dramatically in
recent years, and
WHEREAS, Section l4-l7l(c) presently requires that abandoned
vehicles be impounded and held for a period of three months before the
commencement of procedures to dispose of such vehicles, and
WHEREAS, the City resources to care for such abandoned vehicles
is severely limited, and
WHEREAS, a shorter period for impoundment prior to commencing
notification to the owner of such vehicle and sale thereof as provided in
Section l4-l7l(c) will help eliminate this strain on City resources;
NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, ORDAINS:
Section 1. Section 14-171 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of
Seward is hereby amended by the creation of a new subsection (d) which shall
read as follows:
(d) the procedure set forth in subsection (c) hereof
shall be followed in the disposition of abandoned
vehicles except that the period during which the
abandoned vehicles must be impounded prior to com-
mencement of the said procedures is thirty days.
Section 2. This ordinance takes effect ilmnedlately upon enactment.
ENACTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, this
10th_ day of October, 1977.
