ORDINANCE NO. 534
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, REPEALING AND RE-ENACTING SECTION 17-4.6
OF THE SEWARD CITY CODE RELATIVE TO PERSONNEL STEP INCREASES
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, HEREBY ORDAINS that:
Section 1. Section 17-4.6 of the Seward City Code is hereby
repealed and re-enacted to read as follows:
Sec. 17-4.6. A new employee, after serving a
six-month probationary period of satisfactory
performance, shall receive a step increase. An
employee who has transferred to a new position and
who must serve a probationary period, does receive a
probationary step increase. A probationary step
increase is a special, one time only, step increase.
For an employee to receive step increases "c" and
"D", s/he must continue to demonstrate satisfactory
service of a progressively greater value. Beyond
step "D", employees are eligible for annual step
increases on each anniversary date thereafter up to
step "1" only where the department head feels the
employee has demonstrated service of a progressively
greater value, greater responsibility, and performed
beyond what normally would be expected for the City
during the past anniversary year. Step increases
are to be awarded to those employees who demonstrate
service of a progressively greater value to the City
and involving progressively greater responsibility
and shall not be automatic. Satisfactory perfor-
mance alone shall not be grounds for a step in-
crease.
Section 2.
This ordinance shall become effective July 1,
1985.
