ORDINANCE NO. 546
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, ESTABLISHING COMPENSATION FOR THE MAYOR
AND COUNCILMEMBERS TRAVELLING ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL
WHEREAS, the Mayor and members of the City Council are at
times required to travel outside the City of Seward in their official
capacity as elected officers of the City; and
WHEREAS, this travel often means a loss of compensation and/or
leave time when work time is lost from the official's regular place of
employment; and
WHEREAS, the City wishes to compensate Councilmembers for lost
wages when this loss is incurred in the performance of official City
business authorized by the City Council;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, HEREBY ORDAINS that:
Section 1. Article II, Chapter 2, of the Seward City Code is
hereby amended by adding the following new section:
Sec. 2-23.1. Compensation of Councilmembers
travelling on City business. (a) Whenever the Mayor
or any member of the City Council suffers a loss of
compensation or leave time from his regular employer
as a result of official travel outside the City on
behalf of the Council, said official shall be
entitled to compensation as follows:
(1) $50.00 for lost work time amounting to
one-half work day or less;
(2) $100.00 for lost work time amounting to
more than one-half of any work day.
(b) This compensation shall be in addition to
actual expenses paid by the City for travel and per
diem and must be approved by an affirmative vote of
the Council.
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect October 7, 1985.
ENACTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA,
