CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 98-096
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING A MUTUAL AID AGREEMENT FORA MULTI-
AGENCY ANTI-DRUG TASK FORCE ON THE KENAI PENINSULA AND
APPROPRIATE $6,250.00 TO THE TASK FORCE
WHEREAS, on April 8, 1998, the Chiefs of Po lice of Homer, Soldotna, Kenai, and Seward,
along with the Alaska State Trooper Detachment Commander for the Kenai Peninsula held a meeting
regarding a grant application and a mutual aid agreement; and
WHEREAS, the Grant will be from the Edward Byrne Memorial Drug and Violent Crime
Fund, in the amount of $100,000, and will require a twenty-five (25%) percent match if the grant
application is successful; and
WHEREAS, all of the Chiefs agreed to go forward with the grant application and to request
an appropriation from their individual agencies for twenty-five (25%) percent of the "match,"
$6,250; and
WHEREAS, there is a good possibility of recouping the matching funds through asset
seizures following successful investigations; and
WHEREAS, the main thrust of the investigations being conducted will be toward cocaine,
crack cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine, which are the drugs of choice - with methamphet-
amine having a strong new showing in the communities of the Kenai Peninsula; and
WHEREAS, the project administrator for the grant will be Chief Shirley Warner of the
Soldotna Police Department;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. Authorizing the City Manager to enter into a mutual aid agreement with the cities
of Soldotna, Kenai, Homer and the Alaska State Troopers to provide for a multi-agency anti-drug
task force on the Kenai Peninsula.
Section 2. City Council hereby appropriates $6,250.00 from the General Fund fund balance,
account number 101-0000-3050, to the Police Department Special Services Account, account
number 101-1210-5190, to be used for the City of Seward's share of the matching funds.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
