ORDINANCE NO. 570
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, AMENDING SECl'ION 19A-39 OF THE CITY CODE BY
ELIMINATING EXEMPI'IONS WHICH ALLaVED BOATS AND VESSELS TO
BE TAXED ACCORDING TO THEIR NEI' TONNAGES RATHER THAN
ASSESSED VAIDES
WHEREAS, projected revenue shortfalls for Fiscal Year 1987
have necessitated a search for additional and new revenue sources; and
~VHEREAS, the City of Seward =rent1y taxes boats and vessels
on the basis of their net tonnages rather than their assessed values;
and
WHEREAS, a personal property tax on boats and vessels based on
their assessed values would generate substantial additional revenues for
the City;
NCW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, HEREBY ORDAINS that:
Section 1. Section 19A-39 of the Seward City Code is hereby
amended to read as follows:
Sec. 19A-39. Method. All taxable property
must be assessed at its true and full value, and all
assessments shall be nniforrn and equal and based
upon the actual value of the property assessed.
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect ten (10) days
following its enact:Irent.
