CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
ORDINANCE NO. 571
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, INCREASING CITY SALES TAX 'lD THREE PERCENT
WHEREAS, significant reductions in State Revenue Sharing have
resulted in a serious shortfall in the City's operating budget; and
WHEREAS, the Administration has taken steps to reduce City
expenditures while maintaining hose services vital to the conmunity; and
WHEREAS, without the develo:r:rrent of additional revenue sourc-
es, it will be necessary to reduce or eliminate certain vital services
to the community; and
WHEREAS, a sales tax will effectively place a portion of the
burden of the cost of these services on those individuals who benefit
fran City services yet live outside the City of Seward;
NCW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, HEREBY ORDAINS that:
Section 1. Section 19A-45 of the City Code is hereby anended
by deleting the phrase "one percent" and substituting in its stead the
phrase "three percent".
Section 2. The Table found in Section 19A-48 of the City Code
lS hereby arrended to read as follOW's:

Section 3. Section 19A-49 of the City Code is hereby anended
by deleting the phrase "one percent" and substituting in its stead the
phrase "three percent".
Section 4. This ordinance shall take effect October 1, 1986.
