CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
ORDINANCE NO. 609
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, AMENDING THE CITY PERSONNEL CODE
BY RESTRUCTURING THE HOLIDAYS WITH PAY SCHEDULE
FOR LIBRARY EMPLOYEES
WHEREAS, the Community Library was incorporated into
the city effective July 1, 1988; and
WHEREAS, employees of the Library are subject to the
provisions of Section 17-11.1 of the City Code; and
WHEREAS, Section 17-11.1 of the City Code sets out the
schedule of holidays with pay for all city employees; and
WHEREAS, city employees receive the day immediately
following Thanksgiving Day as a paid holiday; and
WHEREAS, the day after Thanksgiving Day has tradition-
ally been a very busy day for the Community Library, and the
Librarian wishes to continue the Library's practice of
remaining open on this day each year; and
WHEREAS, the city wishes to compensate Library employ-
ees by giving them the equivalent of an additional full
day's paid holiday in consideration for the loss of holiday
status on the day following Thanksgiving Day;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, HEREBY ORDAINS that:
Section 1. Section 17-11.1 of the Seward City Code is
hereby amended to read as follows:

wi th pay for all employees in regular full time,
permanent parttime and trainee positions who are
in pay status the day before and the day after the
recognized holidays:
New Year's Day, Washington's Birthday,
Seward's Day, Memorial Day, Independence
Day, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanks-
giving Day and the day immediately
following Thanksgiving Day, one-half
working day immediately preceding
Christmas Day and Christmas Day;

except that for the employees of the city's li-
brary department, the day immediately following
Thanksgiving Day shall not be considered a holiday
with pay. Library employees shall, instead,
receive the full working day immediately preceding
Christmas Day and one-half working day immediately
preceding New Year's Day as holidays with pay.
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect ten (10)
days following its enactment.
