CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
ORDINANCE NO. 639 SUBSTITUTE
OF
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
SEWARD, ALASKA, MODIFYING THE SEWARD ZONING CODE,
TABLE 15.10.225, "LAND USES ALLOWED", ALLOWING
DOCKS AND PASSENGER TERMINALS IN PARKS AND
INSTITUTIONAL ZONING DISTRICTS
WHEREAS, the City and the State of Alaska Department of
Transportation and Public Facilities, Alaska Marine Highway system
state), have mutually worked toward development of new ferry
terminal and dock facilities (Facility) in Seward; and
WHEREAS, after a lengthy evaluation process, it appears that
the only feasible and prudent site remaining in Seward that
fulfills the criteria for the Facility is located in Waterfront
Park, along the waterfront east of an extension of B Street; and
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 638 addresses the issue of rezoning the
proposed Facility site from Park to Institutional; and
WHEREAS, although the existing Seward Zoning Code lists
marinas and harbors as permitted uses in Institutional districts,
it does now allow for docks and passenger terminals in that
district, uses that are not inconsistent with the current allowed
uses; and
WHEREAS, similar uses, allowed by conditional use permit, may
also be beneficial in the Park zoning district if the City pursues
a southerly expansion of its small boat harbor;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
HEREBY ORDAINS that:
section 1. Table 15.10.225, "Land Uses Allowed", "Boat
Marine)" uses, is hereby amended to read as follows:
