CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
ORDINANCE NO. 92-21
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AMENDING SEWARD CITY CODE
SECTION 3.45.075, LEAVE WITHOUT PAY
WHEREAS, the newly Alaska Family Leave Act went into effect on September 16,
1992; and
WHEREAS, the city is subject to certain portions of the Family Leave Act; and
WHEREAS, the city wishes to revise its personnel code to comply with these
provisions of the Family Leave Act;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA HEREBY ORDAINS that:
Section 1. Seward City Code ~ 3.45.075 A. is hereby amended to read as follows:
3.45.075 Leave without pay. A. Purpose and conditions. Leave without
pay may be granted to an employee upon recommendation of the department head
and approval of the city manager. Each request for such leave shall be considered
in the light of the circumstances involved and the needs of the organization. Leave
without pay shall not be requested nor granted until such time as all accrued
annual leave has been exhausted, except when an employee is absent and drawing
workmen's compensation pay. Normally, not more than sixty calendar days leave
without pay may be granted for personal reasons, except that employees requesting
leave under the provisions of the Alaska Family Leave Act, AS 23.10.500 - AS
23.10.550, shall be granted leave without pay in accordance with the guidelines
established by said act. No benefits will accrue while on leave without pay except
insurance which will continued to be paid as long as the employee is employed by
the city.
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect ten (10) days following its enactment.
ENACTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, this
26th day of October, 1992.
