ORDINANCE NO. 229
AN ORDINANCE FIXING AND PRESCRIBING THE TERJ:fiS OF SALE OF LOTS 1, 2, 3, 4,
5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17 BLOCK 31 and WTS 1, 2, 3,
4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20, BWCK 32,
AND WTS 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39 and
40, BWCK 32, ALL IN THE SEWARD TOWNSITE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CmIl~N COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF SEWARD:
1. That in the judgment of the Common Council, the following described
real property is no longer required for municipal purposes.
2. That it appears advantageous to the City to sell the following describ-
ed real property.
3. That the Common Council finds the valuation of the following described
real property to be Four Thousand Fifty Dollars ($4,050.00).
4. That the l{ayor and the municipal clerk be and they are hereby authorized
and directed to execute a deed or deeds of the following described property
to Seward Investment Co. Inc., a corporation, upon payment of said sum of
Four 'l'housand Fifty Dollars ($4,050.00).
5. The property to which this ordinance refers is all that real property
situated in the Seward Townsite, Seward Recording Precinct, Alaska, and more
particularly described as Lots 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,
9 and 20 of Block 32, and Lots 24,25,26,27,28,29,30,31,32,33,34,35,36 and 37,
,39 and 40 of Block 32, and Lots 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16 and
17 of Block 31.
6. That the Mayor and Municipal Clerk be and they are hereby authorized
d directed to negotiate a trade with the U. S. Government to convey one lot
Block 34 of the Seward Townsite to the U. S. Goverrunent in return for a
onveyance from the U. S.,;Government to the City of Seward of Lot three (3)
in Block 32 of the Seward Townsite.
In the event that the City is unsuccess-
ul in such negotiations, then the said Lot 3 of Block 32 shall be eliminated
rom the properties conveyed to Seward Investment Co. Inc., and the payment
rom said corporation shall be reduced to Three Thousand Nine Hundred Seventy
ive Dollars (~3,975.00).

7. That as a condition to delivery of a deed hereunder. the City
shall obtain from Seward Investment Co. Inc.. a commitment agreeing to
use the property for housing only and for the construction of houses all of
which shall be approved by the Federal Housing Administration and in accordanc
with Federal Housing Administration standards; that the City obtain a further
commitment from said corporation to the effect that if such corporation
fails to complete such houses by the first ~ of November. 1954. the corpora-
tion will convey said lots to the City at the same price for which such
corporation purchased such lots under this ordinance.
8. Publication of this ordinance shall be made by posting a copy hereof
on the City Hall Bulletin Board for a period of ten (10) days following the
pasSQe hereof 0
9. The rules governing the introduction. passage and approval of
resolutions are hereby suspended and an emergency is hereby declared to
exist and this resolution shall become effective immediately upon its
passage and approval.

Dear Sirs:
In accordance with paragraph NO. 7 of' Ordinance No. ')/).-7 t
We hereby advise you that we agree to use th~ property
descrihed in said ordinance. for housing only and for the
construct10n, of houses all of which shall be approved by
the Federal Housing Administration; and in acco~ce with
Federal Ho~sing Administration Standards; we further agree
that if We fail to complete the proposed housing on the
54 lots as herelnhef'ore Clescribed in. said ordinance by
Novemher l~ 1954. we shall give the City of Seward the
opportunity to repurchase said lots at the same price we
paid you.
Ih"the event of prolonged strikes, fire or other matters
beyond our control however,. we should like to extend the
November 1, 1954 deadline in accordance with delays caused
by the matters beyond our control.
