AN ORDINANCE of the Town of Seward, Alaska, Providing
Vacating the North 120 Feet of the Public
Alley in Block Six on the East of Lot.s 37,
38, 39 and 40 in said Block Six, and West
of Fractional Lots 1, 2, 3 and 4 Inclu-
sive in said Block, of the Townsia of Sew-
ard, Alaska; and if Such Action be Duly
Ratified, Authorizing a Sale of Such Vacat-
ed Area of said Alley in Block Six of said
Townsi te to th e Standard Oil Company of
Ca.ifornia, a Delaware Corporation; and
Calling a Special Election for the Purpose
of Submitting to the "ualified Voters of
said fown the Question of the Ratification

Alaska:
Section 1: That, the property hereinafter described, being no
longer held for any public use or devoted thereto, and in the
Judgment of the Common Council of the Town of Seward, AJ.&ska, it I
appears advantageous to th e sai d fown to vacate such property and
to sell the same, it is by this Ordinance provided that there
shall be no longer required or held, for munic1pa~ purposes, the
North 120 feet of the public alley in Block Six on the East of

Lots 1, 2, 3 and 4 inclusive, in said Block, of the Townsite 01'
Seward, AlaSka, and the same is hereby declared to be vacated;
such action, however, is subject to the ratification thereof by
iI the qualified voters of said Town of Seward as by laYi provided.

That, the Standard 011 Company of California, a Dela-
ware corporation, in connection with other lands in said Block
Six of said Townsite of Seward, AlaSka, desires to construct, in-
stall and erect additional improvements for additional storage
facilities of its products, thereby increasing the business and

revenue of said Town; and, for the purposes stated said Company
desires to purchase said vacated portion of said alley in Block
Six of the Townsite of Seward, Alaska, and, in the judgment of the!
Common Council of said Town, such action appears to be advanta-
geous to the said Town, now, therefore, the M~or and Municipal
Clerk of the Town of Seward, Alaska, ar'e hereby authorized, in
the corporate name and under the corpilrate seal. to make, execute,:
sign, seal, acknowledge and deliver proper instrument in writing,
conveying title thereof to said Standard 011 Company of Califor-
nia, a corporation as aforesaid; provided, however, that a maJor-

ity of the qualified voters voting at a special .I.ting hereby
called for such purpose shall ratify such authorization to so
convey said designated area of land.
Section 3: That a special election is hereby called, to be held
in said Town of Seward on Thursday, the 10th d~ of June, 1937,
between the hours of 8 o'clock A. M. and 7 ofc~ock P. M., the
polling place to be the Town Hall of said Town, for the purpose
of submitting to the qualified voters of said Town of Seward the
question of the ratification of this Ordinance.
~ection 4: That the Ballot used at said special election shall
contain the following statement of two propositions to be submit-
ted to th e voters,
PROPOSITION NUMBER ONE
Shall the Town of Seward, Alaska, ratify and approve
Ordinance No. 133 adopted by the Common Council of the
Town of Seward, AlaSka, on the ~ d~ of M~, 1937,
providing for the vacating of the North 120 teet of the
public alley in Block Six on the East of Lots 37, 38. 39
and 40 in said Block Six, and West of Fractional Lots 1,
2, 3 and 4 inclusive, i.n said Block, of the Townsite of
Seward, Alaska:

and authorize the sale of the North 120 feet of the public
alley in Block Six of the Townsite of Seward, AlaSka, to
the Standard Oil Company of California, a Delaware Corpor-
ation, as also provided by the terms of said Ordinance

Section 5: That the following named persons are hereby designat-
ed and appointed as officers of said election, to conduct the
same, subject to substitution by the Common Council in the event
of absence of inability to act, of said officers, at said special'

That the Municipal Clerk be and he is hereby author-
ized and directed to give 30 days prior notice of said special
election by causing to be publi shed a notice of such special elee...
tion in the Seward Gateway, a newspaper of general circulation
published and printed in said Town of Seward, a.t least once each
week immediately preceding the date of said election.
That all Ordinances in confl:lc t herewith are hereby

PASSED UNANIMOUSLY under suspension of the rules by the
