ORDINANCE NO 171
AN ORDINANOE TO REGULATE THE OPERATION OF TAXI-CABS WITHIN
THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, BY DESIGNATION
OF THE NUMBER OF CAB-COMPANIES TO BE LICENSED: THE FEE FOR EACH
OAB -eOMPANY LIOENSE: AND OTHER PROVISIONS RELATING TO THE TAXI-
CAB BUSINESS.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
TERRITORY OF ALASAK:
Section 1. That for the purpose of maintinaing the highest
possible standard of service to the public not more than .four (4)'
Taxi~Cab Companies will be licensed to operate from Taxi stands ,
maintained within the corporate limits of the City of Seward, Alas~a.<
Section 2. That a license fee of $10000U is hereby eltablishe~
to cover the operation of each Taxl*Cab Company. Said license
fee will become due and payable on the first day of July of each
year. Said license will allow and authorize each Cab-Com~y to
operate as many individual cabs as desired.
Section 3. That there shall never be more than two (2) Cabs
parked at the Cab-Stand at one time.
Section 4. That all Cabs shall be subject to inspection at
any time by the Chief of Police ,and if any c ondi tion shall be
found wherein a Oab is not in f,rst-class condition for operation,
the Cab shall be removed from the stand and not operated until put
into first-class condition. i
Section 5. That each Cab shall be ..ax covered with accident
and liability insurance.
Section 6. That a card not less than 5"x 7" in size shall be
posted in a conspicious place in each Cab desi~natim~ the fee for
both passen~ers and baggage. This fee shall be reasonable.
Section 7. That the license fee f or each Cab-Driver shall
be $25.00 which will expire June 3mth of each year and shall be
renewed annually. Anyone procurin~ a license after DeC. 31 shall
pay $12.50 which license shall also expire June 30th.
Section 8. That the Common Council of the City of Seward,
Alaska shall determine the issueing of a license to a new Cab-
Company should one or more of the four operating companies dis-
qualify themselves as a Licensed Company.
Section 90 That A Cab-Company may transfer its License to a
new owner at any time.
Section 10. That failure to operate a 24hour service at all
times without permission of the Common Council shall be grounds
for revoking the license.
Section 11. That the following four named Cab-Companies, now
operating within the City of Seward, Alaska, namely the Le~ion Cab.
The Reliable Cab, The YelloW Cab and the City Cab are hereby :
designaeed as the four Cab-Companies to be licensed to operate .
as such within the corporate limits of the City of Seward, Al.aka.'
Territory of Alaska..
Section 12, That upon final approval and passage of this
ordinance all stipulations will become effective as of the f irat
of July, 1947. This ordinance to revoke any and all ordinances
that in any way conflict with the conditions as hereunto set forth
