RESOLUTIOO NO. 86-44
A RESOIDTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEI'1ARD, ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT
A PRELIMINARY APPLICATION FOR A LIBRARY CONSTRUCTION GRANT .
WHEREAS, the Seward Community Library IlUlst provide handicap
accessible toilets in order to corrply with State codes; and
WHEREAS, the Library Board has determined that better utiliza-
tion of existing facilities can best be attained by the addition of a
new office for the librarian and a workroom for library staff; and
WHEREAS, grant funds totalling sixty percent (60%) of the cost
of the project are available frcrn the Department of Education, Division
of State Libraries; and
WHEREAS, grant regulations require the library to provide
local funds totalling forty percent (40%) of the project; and
WHEREAS, total cost of the proposed expansion is estimated to
be $75,000; and
WHEREAS, THE Seward Community Library has $6,000 available to
contribute to the project; and
WHEREAS, the City of Seward \\Uuld be required to furnish
$24,000 under the tenns of the grant; and
WHEREAS, grant regulations require that application for grant
funds be made by the City;
NCW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to execute a
preliminary application for library grant funds totalling $45,000, a
copy of which is attached and incorporated herein by reference.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect irnrediately upon
its adoption.
