ORDINANCE 2000-12
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF mE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AMENDING SEWARD CITY CODE TITLE 15, LAND USES
ALLOWED TABLE 15.10.225 TO ALLOW HEALTH CLUBS IN THE
HARBOR COMMERCIAL ZONING DISTRICT
WHEREAS, the purpose of Harbor Commercial Zoning District is to provide an area for
water-dependent or water-related uses with particular emphasis on transportation, tourist,
recreational, commercial or industrial enterprises which derive major economic or social benefit from
a harbor location; and
WHEREAS, it is evident that the Harbor Commercial district has changed significantly over
the past 15 years from primarily boat storage and repair to retail and service businesses (i. e. charter
offices, hotels, restaurants, gift shops and a hardware store) and public parking; and
WHEREAS, the Zoning Code currently prohibits health clubs in the Harbor Commercial
Zoning District; and
WHEREAS, allowing health clubs in the Harbor Commercial Zoning District will not create
any greater impact on the district than any of the existing businesses operating in the area; and
WHEREAS, it is in the public interest to maintain a city code that is up to date and in tune
with current community needs; and
WHEREAS, at its May 9, 2000 meeting, the Planning and Zoning Commission held a public
hearing and recommended City Council approval of the proposed Zoning Code amendment.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
HEREBY ORDAINS that:
Section 1. Title 15 Seward Citv Code Table 15.10.225 Land Uses Allowed is hereby
amended as follows:

Section 2.
This ordinance shall take effect ten (10) days following its enactment.
ENACTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, this
12 day ofJune, 2000.
