CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 87-005
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, URGING THE ALASKA LEGISLATURE TO
REPEAL LAWS ALLOWING THE PERSONAL POSSESSION AND USE
OF MARIJUANA
WHEREAS, the state of Alaska is eligible for certain
federal grants for control of narcotics; and
WHEREAS, the dangerous and grievous use of unlawful
narcotics threatens the lives and well-being of many citi-
zens of Alaska, especially our young people; and
WHEREAS, the Alaska Statutes allow for
session and use of amounts of contraband
substances which would otherwise be illegal

WHEREAS, these peculiar provisions of state law threat-

control of narcotics; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The Legislature of the state of Alaska is
urged to repeal those sections of the Alaska Statutes which
allow personal possession and use of marijuana.
Section 2. The Legislature is further urged to enact
laws establishing criminal penalties for use and possession
of marijuana.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immedi-
ately upon its adoption.
