CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 87-008
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, SUPPORTING THE CONSTRUCTION BY THE
ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND PUBLIC
FACILITIES OF A NON-DIRECTIONAL BEACON AT THE
SEWARD AIRPORT
WHEREAS, the
Public Facilities
Airport; and
Alaska Department of Transportation and
(DOT/PF) owns and operates the Seward
WHEREAS, reliable
important to Seward

air service is becoming

economy; and
increasingly
forward in
WHEREAS, the lay of the land and the airport location
make it improbable that, within today's technology, any
instrumental landing systems can be installed at the Seward
Airport; and
WHEREAS, Visual Flight Rules (VFR) continue to be in
force with regard to aircraft usage of Seward Airport; and
WHEREAS, at the request of the city of Seward and local
aircraft operators, the DOT/PF has conducted a study regard-
ing the installation of a non-directional beacon (NDB) at
the Seward Airport to enhance VFR conditions;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The Alaska Legislature is urged to support
and include within the DOT/PF budget :1:$107,500 for con-
struction of a non-directional beacon at the Seward Airport
and $7,000 for annual maintenance of that installation.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immedi-
ately upon its adoption.
