CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 87-072
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, IN SUPPORT OF THE STATE OF ALASKA'S
APPLICATION TO LOCATE THE SUPER COLLIDER PROJECT IN
INTERIOR ALASKA
WHEREAS, the U. S. Department of Energy
proposals to be presented on September 2,
location of the proposed Super Collider; and
has requested

WHEREAS, the state of Alaska has a sui table site for
the location of the Super Collider; and
WHEREAS, the state of Alaska is strategically located
to provide, through the Fairbanks and Anchorage Internation-
al airports, access to all of the world's capitals and for
the scientific traffic which will be generated during the
conduct of experiments at this site; and
WHEREAS, the proposed site offers excellent oppor-
tunities for expanslon by the Department of Energy for
additional facilities to be developed and, at the same time,
offers excellent security at the proposed location; and
WHEREAS, the necessary
educational support, highway,
nished or provided; and
infrastructures of high-tech
rail and power can be fur-
WHEREAS, the state of Alaska has demonstrated its
ability to provide the necessary work force for this con-
struction effort as evidenced by the construction force
which was put into effect for the construction of the
Trans-Alaska Pipeline; and
WHEREAS, Interior Alaska has the capability to house
the construction force for the Super Collider, just as it
did for those constructing the Trans-Alaska Pipeline; and
WHEREAS, the Fairbanks and Nenana areas have all of the
necessary infrastructure in place, including housing, to
support the permanent work force which will be employed by
the Super Collider; and
WHEREAS, this proposed facility would provide an
environmentally clean economic activity base for the entire
state of Alaska; and

RESOLUTION NO. 87-072
WHEREAS, the state of Alaska has traditionally shown
excellent cooperation with the U. S. government in all of
the projects which have been developed by the government of
the United States for construction in Alaska; and
WHEREAS, the city of Seward is supportive of develop-
ment of other communities within the state; and
WHEREAS, the city of Seward would be especially pleased
to see construction of a project which would benefit Interi-
or Alaska and help to ease the unemployment problems in that
area;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The city of Seward endorses and supports
the application of the state of Alaska for the location of
the Super Collider on state land ten miles west of Nenana.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immedi-
ately upon its adoption.
