CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 88-040
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, REGARDING MUNICIPAL ASSISTANCE
AND REVENUE SHARING
WHEREAS, state assistance to local governments through
the Municipal Assistance and State Revenue Sharing Programs
is an important element in enabling local governments to
provide basic services at reasonable costs to community
citizens; and
WHEREAS, these programs have taken substantial cuts
during the past several years, a period during which federal
support to local governments has also dramatically declined;
and
WHEREAS, Alaska's current economic situation has
resulted in a shrinking of the local tax base in many areas;
and
WHEREAS, the Alaskan economic situation has dramatical-
ly affected the ability of local governments to provide
basic public services; and
WHEREAS, local governments have reduced, and continue
to reduce, expenditures, increase efficiency and rely more
heavily on local resources; and
WHEREAS, the maintenance of a
government services and employment

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The state of Alaska is urged to provide
municipal assistance and revenue sharing funding at State
Fiscal Year 1986 levels of $81.3 Million and $59.6 Million,
respectively.
Section 2. The city clerk is hereby authorized and
directed to send a copy of this resolution to the governor
and members of the Fifteenth Alaska State Legislature.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immedi-
ately upon its adoption.
