HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes1988-047 . Sponsored by: Gieseler CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 88-047 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, URGING THE U. S. POST OFFICE TO INITIATE BUSINESS MAIL DELIVERY AND THE INSTALLATION OF MAIL DROP BOXES IN THE CITY OF SEWARD WHEREAS, the business community in Seward has expressed an interest in the initiation of business mail delivery in Seward; and WHEREAS, Seward's business population is sufficient to support business mail delivery; and WHEREAS, the U. S. Post Office is no longer located on the main thoroughfare coming into Seward; and WHEREAS, the Post Office's easily accessible to tourists and the old location; and new location is not as visitors to Seward as was . WHEREAS, cruise ship and ferry passengers, other recreational visitors and the citizens of Seward would benefit from access to U. S. Post Office mail boxes placed at strategic locations within the city of Seward; and WHEREAS, servicing three or four additional mail drops would not adversely affect the operation of the U. S. Post Office facility in Seward; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: Section 1. The U. S. Post Office is urged to initiate business mail delivery in the city of Seward, Alaska. Section 2. The U. S. Post Office is further urged to place mail boxes in three or four locations throughout the city of Seward, providing mail drop services in the downtown area, the Small Boat Harbor, and at the proposed new Chamber of Commerce location. Section 3. Copies of this resolution shall be forward- ed to U. S. P. O. District Manager Robert Opinsky and Senator Ted Stevens. . Section 4. This resolution shall take effect immedi- ately upon its adoption. -1- . .
