CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 95-105
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, PLACING LOCAL SITES WHICH HAVE
ATTAINED NATIONAL REGISTER STATUS ON THE SEWARD
REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 95-10 established the Seward Register of Historic Places in
order to locally recognize significant properties in Seward's history; and
WHEREAS, Seward Historic Preservation Commission Resolution No. 95-06 established
that properties which have attained National Register status are automatically eligible for the Seward
Register of Historic Places; and
WHEREAS, there are currently a total often sites in the Seward area which have been listed
on the National Register of Historic Places; and
WHEREAS, the established policy requires eligible properties to be placed on the local
register by resolution of the City Council; and
WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Commission approved Resolution No. 95-10,
recommending that the City Council place the eligible properties listed below on the local register;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. In accordance with the eligibility criteria established by the Historic Preservation
Commission, the following sites are hereby placed on the Seward Register of Historic Places:
St. Peter's Episcopal Church
Brown and Hawkins Store
Government Cable House
Seward Depot
Iditarod Trail
Ballaine House
Swetmann House
Van Gilder Hotel
Diversion Tunnel at Lowell Creek
Alaska Central Railroad Tunnel Number 1
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 11 th day
of September, 1995.
