CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 88-108
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, APPROPRIATING FUNDS TO THE SMIC
NORTH DOCK CAPITAL PROJECT
WHEREAS, in January, 1988, the city issued $2.5 Million
in General Obligation Bonds, of which $2.1 Million was for
the construction of the SMIC North Dock; and
WHEREAS, the current budget for construction of the
North Dock does not contain any contingency or reserves
because of the higher than anticipated cost of the sheet
pile steel; and
WHEREAS, the project plan included using dredge materi-
al from the basin as backfill for the dock; and
WHEREAS, the dredge material has now been found to be
totally unsuitable for use in backfilling the dock area; and
WHEREAS, this changed condition necessitates the
acquisition of additional granular fill from other sources
in order to properly backfill the dock area; and
WHEREAS, the city has a contract with Afognak Logging
under which Afognak will provide the city with granular fill
at a price of $2.80 per cubic yard; and
WHEREAS, the city's engineers estimate that approxi-
mately 8,500 cubic yards of fill will be required to make
the dock functional; and
WHEREAS, this additional fill will cost an estimated
$25,000;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The sum of $25,000 is hereby appropriated
from the Harbor Fund Fund Balance Account Number 401-000-
271-00-00 to the SMIC North Dock Capital Project Fund Number
232000, and the respective budgets are amended accordingly.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immedi-
ately upon its adoption.
