CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 88-114
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, SUPPORTING STATE TORT REFORM AS
SET FORTH IN STATE BALLOT MEASURE NO.2
WHEREAS, current state law allows the courts to
payment of judgments by defendants most able to pay
than assessing penalties based on percentage of
liability; and
demand
rather
total
WHEREAS, this judicial climate has increased insurance
costs for service providers and municipalities; and
WHEREAS, our judicial system should treat all defen-
dants in civil suits equitably and should assure that a
defendant pays only for his own actions and not the actions
of others; and
WHEREAS, State Ballot Measure No.2 would amend current
state law to effect these changes;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA:
Section 1. Supports State Ballot Measure No. 2 and
urges the citizens of Seward to vote "FOR" Ballot Measure
No.2 on November 8, 1988.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immedi-
ately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
