CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 95-111
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER
TO REQUEST PROPOSALS FOR A CLASS A PUMPER TRUCK AND
A MEDIUM DUTY RESCUE TRUCK FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT
SUBJECT TO APPROVAL OF A FINANCING PACKAGE FOR ACQUISITION
WHEREAS, the Fire Department has received matching grant funds from the state totaling
$91,289, and a financing package totaling $225,000 was approved in the FY 1996 budget for the
replacement of a pumper truck and a rescue truck; and
WHEREAS, the estimated cost of a pumper truck similar to the 1985 E-1 pumper and
rescue truck that meets industry standards is approximately $390,000; and
WHEREAS, the amount needed for match requirements and to address the higher than
anticipated cost of the pumper and rescue truck is NTE $300,000; and
WHEREAS, the annual debt service on the required financing package totaling $298,711 is
lower than the amount budgeted in FY 1996 due to the payoff of an equipment financing package;
and
WHEREAS, the purchase of the two vehicles will provide service for the next 20 to 30 years
at the present population and service needs and will be adequate for the anticipated growth within
the city;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to request proposals for a Class A pumper
truck and a medium duty rescue truck for the Seward Fire Department.
Section 2. Award of a contract for the purchase of the vehicles is contingent upon the
approval of a financing package by the City Council.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
