CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 88-124
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF SEWAGE
GRINDERS FOR THE SPRING CREEK CORRECTIONAL CENTER
WITHOUT FULL UTILIZATION OF CITY BID PROCEDURES
WHEREAS, other prison facilities in the state of Alaska
have found it necessary to install sewage grinders on sewage
treatment facilities; and
WHEREAS, it has been determined to be necessary to
install grinder equipment for the Spring Creek Correctional
Center (SCCC) wastewater facility; and
WHEREAS, DWS Disposable Waste Systems, Inc., manufac-
tures specialized equipment designed for this purpose that
has satisfactorily performed in the Seward Sewage Treatment
Plant and for other prison facilities; and
WHEREAS, the modification to the SCCC lift station was
designed based on the capability and dimensions of the
l'1uffin Monster Model 30001-0012 grinder which is designed
specifically for this type of use; and
WHEREAS, no other suitable equipment is locally avail-
able that will meet the demands of this system;
NmJ, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. It is in the public interest to waive
competitive bidding requirements for the purchase of a
sewage grinder for the SCCC wastewater facility.
Section 2. The city manager is authorized to purchase
a Muffin Monster Model 30001-0012 directly from the manufac-
turer for a price of approximately $15,321.00, FOB factory,
with funds available within the prison project budget.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immedi-
ately upon its adoption.
