CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 89-020
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, SUPPORTING THE ISSUANCE OF A TOUR
CONCESSION PERMIT ON THE HARDING ICEFIELD BY THE
NATIONAL PARK SERVICE
WHEREAS, the Seward community has been involved for over
twenty years in the development of what is now the Kenai Fjords
National Park as a visitor destination~ and
WHEREAS,
Environmental
regarding the
Permit~ and
the National Park Service has completed an
Assessment (EA) outlining five alternatives
issuance of a Harding Icefield Tours Concession
WHEREAS, all of the alternatives within the EA provide for
access routes acceptable to the city~ and
WHEREAS, the community would greatly benefit from this
added visitor attraction~
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
section 1. The National Park Service is encouraged to
approve its Environmental Assessment~ and to proceed with the
selection of an operator and issuance of a tour concession
permit on the Harding Icefield.
section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately
upon its adoption.

SEWARD, ALASKA, this 27th day of Februarv, 1989.
