CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 89-035
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, URGING THE LEGISLATURE TO
APPROPRIATE FUNDS FOR PREPARATION OF AN ENVIRONMENTAL
IMPACT STATEMENT FOR NAVY HOMEPORTING IN ALASKA
WHEREAS, the U. S. Navy desires to locate a homeport in the
state of Alaska; and
WHEREAS, the U. S. Navy has identified the cities of Kodiak
and Seward as its two preferred sites for its homeport; and
WHEREAS, the Navy has
prepare and Environmental
homeport at these two sites;
requested that the state of Alaska
Impact Statement for developing a
and
WHEREAS, funds are not currently available in the state budget
for completion of the EIS;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The Alaska State Legislature is hereby urged to
appropriate the sum of $750,000 for the preparation of an Environ-
mental Impact Statement for Navy Homeporting.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward,
Alaska, this 24th day of April, 1989.
