RESOLUTION NO. 85-111
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, WELCCNrNG SAM-lliAN CORPORATION AND
SAM-lliAN AMERICA 'ro SEWARD
WHEREAS, the Sarrwhan Corporation,
contracting, engineering and developrrent finn,
as Sarrwhan Arrerica; and
a Korean international
has fonned a branch known
WHEREAS, the City of Seward has awarded to Sarrwhan Arrerica a
contract to construct the Spring Creek Correctional Facility in Seward;
and
WHEREAS, Sarrwhan Arrerica has corrmi tted to hire local residents
and support local businesses; and
WHEREAS, the residents of Seward will enjoy significant
economic benefits fran the increased enployrrent and business activity
necessary to support construction and operation of the correctional
facility;
NCM, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Council of Seward welcorres and supports
Sam.vhan Corporation in its nev.r venture in Alaska and other possible
ventures involving Sarrwhan Corporation and the City because:
a. The Port of Sev.rard is strategically located to support
intemational trade and other ventures involving Sarrwhan Arrerica; and
b. Seward residents are conmitted to supporting such ven-
tures, as well as the new Spring Creek Correctional Facility being
constructed by Sarrwhan Arrerica; and
c. Sanwhan America and its subcontractors are corrmi tted to
local hire and will provide Seward residents and our friends on the
Kenai Peninsula and in Southcentral Alaska an increased opportunity for
enployrrent and training.
Section 2. Copies of this resolution shall be forwarded to
Govemor Bill Sheffield, Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Stan Thorrpson,
and Korean Consul General Hwang.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect imrrediately upon
its adoption.
