CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 84-94 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, DEDICATING THE NEWLY ERECTED TWIN PICNIC PAVILION TO THE MEMORY OF JAMES WELLINGTON WHEREAS, in 1956, James Wellington, seeing the potential for increased business through tourism, conceived of the idea of initiating the Seward Silver Salmon Derby; and WHEREAS, Mr. Wellington, through his persistence, funding and support from the Chamber of commerce and the local for operation of the first Silver Salmon Derby; and obtained citizenry WHEREAS, since that time the Derby has grown in size and popularity, making it one of the most popular in the State; and WHEREAS, the annual influx of tourists as a result of the Derby has been a boon to local businesses; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: Section 1. The twin picnic pavilion located Northeast of the Little League baseball field is hereby dedicated to the memory of James Wellington and shall henceforth be designated "The Wellington Pavilion". Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
