CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUT I ON NO. 82-61 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, IN SUPPORT OF UTiliZING THE CENTER SPAN OF THE JUNEAU-DOUGLAS BRIDGE AS A MEANS OF VEHICULAR ACCESS TO EXIT GLACIER WHEREAS, tourism development is an important long term part of Seward's economy; and WHEREAS, vehicular access to the proposed visitor park at Exit Glacier would enchance a major local attraction, promoting expanded tourism; and WHEREAS, the National Park Service has agreed to pur- sue funding to design and construct a bridge across Resurrec- tion River to access the Exit Glacier Park, but does not have funding at this time; and Inc. owns and has Gastineau Channel WHEREAS, Underwater Construction, offered to sel I the center span of the old bridge which is avai lable immediately; and WHEREAS, this bridge could provide suitable vehicular access sooner and more economically than any alternative plan proposed to date. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: Sect i on 1. The City Counc i I expresses who I ehearted support of the plan to instal I the center span of the Old Gas- teneau Channel bridge across Resurrection River and the Alaska Congress i ona I de I egat i on hereby is requested to sponsor the necessary amendments to the Interior Department appropiations bi I I to fund the cost of its purchase and installation. Sect i on 2. The Nat i ona I Park Serv i ce hereby is requested to negotiate the purchase of the center span of the Old Gast i neau Channe I br i dge for i nsta II at i on across Resur- rection River to provide vehicular access to Exit Glacier. Section 3. This resolution shal I take effect immedi- ately upon its adoption and copies shal I be sent to the Honor- ab I e Jay Hammond, Governor of A I aska; the Honorab I e Ted Stevens, United States Senator for Alaska; the Honorable Frank Murkowski, United States Senator for Alaska; the Honorable Don Young, Un i ted States Congress; Mr. Russe I I E. Dickenson, D i r- ector, National Park Service; Mr, R. Max Peterson, Chief, For- est Service; Mr. Robert W. Ward, Commissioner of Transportation . . . . - and Public Facilities, State of Alaska; Mr. John Cook, the Regional Director, National Park Service, Alaska; and Mr. John Sandor, the Regional Forester, Forest Service, Alaska.
