CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 85-26
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, AUTHORIZING A LONG-TERM LEASE WITH THE
NATIONAL PARK SERVICE FOR AN UNPLATTED PORTION OF BLOCK 6,
OCEANVIEW SUBDIVISION
WHEREAS, the Kenai Fjords National Park headquarters, located
in our community, attracts a myriad of visitors to Seward; and
WHEREAS, the City has approved a conceptual
boardwalk along the Small Boat Harbor waterfront in
beautify the area and attract additional visitors; and
design for a
an effort to
WHEREAS, the National Park Service is in need of a site to
construct a permanent National Park headquarters and visitor's center;
and
WHEREAS, the parcel of land located between the Harbormaster's
Building and the Small Boat Harbor launch ramp has been previously
designated a part of the boardwalk development and is available for
long-term development; and
WHEREAS, the proposed use is in harmony with the needs of the
City and would be an asset in the development of an attractive boardwalk
area; and
WHEREAS, it would not appear to be in the public interest to
request other proposals for the lease of this parcel;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Manager is authorized to
negotiations and execute a lease, attached as Exhibit
incorporated herewith, with the National Park Service for an
parcel within Block 6, Oceanview Subdivision.

Section 2. It is in the public interest to execute said lease
without benefit of a public offering of the property and that normal
lease negotiation policies are waived.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its adoption.
