CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 95-144
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
SUBMIT TO THE STATE OF ALASKA AN APPLICATION FOR A
FEDERAL GRANT TO SURVEY, MAP AND COMPLETE AN HISTORICAL
INVENTORY OF THE SEWARD CITY CEMETERY
WHEREAS, pursuant to the National Park Service Historic Preservation Act of 1966, certain
federal share matching grants for historic preservation projects are available to certified local
governments; and
WHEREAS, there is a public need to survey, map and inventory burial sites within the
Seward City Cemetery as there have been no accurate mapping or burial records maintained; and
WHEREAS, the Office of History and Archaeology has stated that the proposed project to
survey the Seward City Cemetery is eligible for historic preservation program funding; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed the draft application prepared by the Community
Development Department for such a federal share matching grant to survey, map and complete an
historical inventory of the Seward City Cemetery; and
WHEREAS, the City Council is fully cognizant of the obligations and responsibilities that
will be incurred by the City of Seward upon acceptance of such a grant;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to submit an application to the State of
Alaska, Department of Natural Resources, for a federal share matching grant to survey and inventory
the burial sites within the City Cemetery.
Section 2. The Community Development Department is established as the agent for the City
of Seward in the administration of this project.
Section 3. If the City of Seward is awarded the grant for the proposed City Cemetery project,
the City Council will introduce a resolution providing matching funds for this project.
Section 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
