HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes1984-024 . . . , ~ CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 84-24 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, STATING THE COUNCIL'S INTENT TO TRANSFER APPROXIMATELY 325 ACRES OF LAND TO THE STATE OF ALASKA AS A SITE FOR THE STATE'S PROPOSED MAXIMUM SECURITY PRISON WHEREAS, the State of Alaska intends to design and build a maximum security prison in Southcentral Alaska; and WHEREAS, the City of Seward has identified a site which has an industrial character and provides no competing land use conflicts and which would be complimentary to prison siting; and WHEREAS, the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly is transferring approximately 225 acres of land located in the vicinity of the Fourth of July Creek Marine Industrial Center to the City; and \.JHEREAS, the City of Seward has an additional 100 acres of land immediately adjacent to this property; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: Section 1. The Administration is instructed to proceed with the necessary public hearings and document preparations necessary to effect a transfer of approximately 325 acres of land located in the vicinity of the Fourth of July Creek Marine Industrial Center to the State of Alaska. Section 2. The Administration is further instructed that the deed effecting the above cited transfer of property is to contain a reversionary clause stating that should the property cease to be used as the site of a State prison facility, the land will automatically revert back to the City of Seward. Section 3. The Council wishes to make its intention to transfer said land, following fulfillment of all City Code provisions for the disposal of City-owned property, known to Governor Bill Sheffield, Deputy Commissioner Roger Endell, and the Alaska State Legislature. Governor Kerttula Section 4. Copies of this resolution shall be forwarded to Sheffield, Deputy Commissioner Endell, Senate President and House Speaker Hayes. Section 5.
