CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
ORDINANCE NO. 95-09
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AMENDING SEWARD CITY CODE
CHAPTER 9.05, ANIMALS AND FOWL, TO REQUIRE THE
PROPER DISPOSAL OF ANIMAL WASTE ON PUBLIC PROPERTY
WHEREAS, the failure of pet owners to clean up after their animals has resulted
in an unsightly and unsanitary problem in the City's parks and thoroughfares; and
WHEREAS, it is in the public interest to require that pet owners collect and
properly dispose of fecal matter deposited by their animals;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA HEREBY ORDAINS that:
Section 1. A new Section 9.05.155 of the Seward City Code is hereby created to
read as follows:
9.05.155 Removal and disposal of fecal matter.
A. Any person owning, keeping, possessing or harboring any household
animal shall immediately remove and dispose of all fecal matter left by the animal
on public parks, streets, sidewalks or bike paths.
B. Any person owning, keeping, possessing or harboring any livestock
animal shall immediately remove and dispose of all fecal matter left by the animal
on public parks, streets, sidewalks or bike paths.
C. The penalty for a first offense will be a $15 citation, second offense
will be a $30 citation, with a maximum penalty of $50 for third and subsequent
offenses.
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect ten (10) days following its enactment.
ENACTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, this
12th day of June, 1995.
