CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO, 83-41
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, ENDORSING THE EFFORTS OF THE KENAI PENINSULA BOROUGH
TO SECURE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT FUNDS FOR AN UPDATE
OF THE SEWARD COMPREHENSIVE PLAN
WHEREAS, the City of Seward is actively engaged in developing the
Seward Marine Industrial Center, working with private and State resources in
the development of a coal export facility and actively seeking to have the
State Maximum Security Prison located in Seward; and
WHEREAS, a well executed, updated Comprehensive Plan will be needed
to facilitate the community planning necessary to accommodate the planned
growth associated with these projects; and
WHEREAS, the last Comprehensive Plan for the City of Seward was
done by the Alaska State Housing Authority in 1967 with the Land Use Portion
updated in 1979; and
WHEREAS, the Kenai Peninsula Borough Planning Department has applied
for Community Development Block Grant funds to update the Seward Comprehensive
Plan; and
WHEREAS, the Seward Advisory Planning and Zoning Commission has been
polled and all are in favor of continuing their efforts to update the Seward
Comprehensive Plan; and
WHEREAS, the Kenai Peninsula Borough Planning and Zoning Commission
passed a resolution endorsing the efforts to update the Seward Comprehensive
Plan; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Seward recognizes the
importance of proper planning in the growth and development of the City of
Seward;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Council of the City of Seward endorses the
efforts of the Kenai Peninsula Borough to secure Community Development Block
Grant funds for the purpose of updating the City of Seward Comprehensive Plan.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its
adoption.
