RESOLUTION NO, 83-47
A RESOLUTION OF
SEWARD, ALASKA,
BOROUGH TO ADOPT
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
REQUESTING THE KENAI PENINSULA
A FLOOD PLAIN MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the Federal Insurance Administration has completed a
flood insurance study for the Kenai Peninsula Borough; and
WHEREAS, this study will permit the residents and communities
within the Kenai Peninsula Borough to receive Federal flood insurance
subsidy provided the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly adopts a flood
plain management program; and
WHEREAS, many residents of the Borough cannot now obtain
affordable flood insurance because the Kenai Peninsula Borough has
failed to adopt a flood plain management program; and
WHEREAS, the City of Seward has recently completed a multi-
million dollar sewage treatment facility and a major marine industrial
center at Fourth of July Creek representing an investment of over $30
Million in local, state and federal funds; and
WHEREAS, the City of Seward desires to obtain flood insurance
for these public facilities, however, is unable to do so due to the lack
of a Borough adopted flood plain management program which would allow
for federally supported insurance;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The Assembly of the Kenai Peninsula Borough is
respectfully requested to adopt a minimal flood plain management program
sufficient to permit residents and communities within the Borough to
obtain affordable flood insurance.
Section 2, This resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its adoption.
Section 3, Copies of this resolution shall be provided the
Honorable Stan Thompson, Mayor of the Kenai Peninsula Borough, and the
Honorable members of the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly,
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, this 25 day of July , 1983,
