CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION 2006-94 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO CONTRIBUTE $1000 TO THE VILLIAGE OF HOOPER BAY, ALASKA TO HELP IN REBUILDING AFTER THE FIRE OF AUGUST 3, 2006 WHEREAS, the City of Hooper Bay was ravaged by fire on August 3, 2006; and WHEREAS, the fire destroyed Hooper Bay's elementary and high schools, one of two village stores and at least a dozen houses; and WHEREAS, a fund has been established to receive donations to help in the rebuilding of Hooper Bay; and WHEREAS, the City of Seward wishes to donate $1000 to help in the rebuilding of Hooper Bay. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: ..... Section 1. The City Manager is authorized to contribute $1000 to the Hooper Bay Rebuilding Fund from City Council Promotions account 101-1110-5730 to the Hooper Bay Fire Disaster Relief Fund at the Bethel Branch of Wells Fargo Alaska, account # 824-903-4391. OF (1).v ~\..... ~I""III"'" i J IIIlIIIIi Agenda Statement Meeting Date: September 11, 2006 To: Mayor Shafer and Council Members From: City Administration Agenda Item: Hooper BayRebuilding Fund BACKGROUND & JUSTIFICATION: A fire roared through Hooper Bay, Alaska on August 3, 2006, destroying both the elementary and high school, one of two village stores and at least a dozen houses. To help defray the costs of rebuilding, an account has been set up by the community, administered by the Association of Village Council Presidents, to receive donations to help the community. The Seward Community Library has donated their book credits (valued at $325) at Titlewave Books in Anchorage to help the school restock their library shelves. The City Council also expressed a desire to extend a hand to Hooper Bay by donating $1000 to their rebuilding fund. CONSISTENCY CHECKLIST: Yes No 1. Comprehensive Plan ____ 2. Strategic Plan ____ 3.
