ORDINANCE 2004-03
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AMENDING SEWARD CITY CODE SECTION 8.20.025 TO CLARIFY
REQUIREMENTS FOR A VEHICLE FOR HIRE PERMIT
WHEREAS, Seward City Code 8.30.025 (a) mandates a person engaging in a business shall apply
to the City Clerk for a business license on a form prescribed by the city and shall not open for business
until that license is issued; and
WHEREAS, SCC 8.30.025 (c) (5) requires proof satisfactory of any permits as required by an
other sections contained in this code; and
WHEREAS, SCC Section S8.20.025(b), does not clarify a business is required to have a City
business license in conjunction with a vehicle for hire permit before it can operate or dispatch a vehicle for
hire; and

WHEREAS, amending SCC Section 8.20.025, subsection (b) would help clarify that although an
applicant may meet all the requirements of a vehicle for hire permit as stated in SCC Chapter 8.20, a
vehicle for hire permit cannot be issued without also meeting the requirements and obtaining a valid City
of Seward business license.
NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA,
HEREBY ORDAINS that:
Section 1. Seward City Code Section 8.20.025 (b) is amended as follows:

An application for a vehicle for hire permit shall be granted by the clerk if the applicant
complies with see 8.30.025 and subsection (a) of this section.
Section 2. If a business engages in an activity that requires a special permit such as vehicle for
hire or lodging permit, such permit will be issued at the same time as the business license once the
applicant has met the business license requirements outlined in SSC S 8.30.025.
Section 3. This ordinance shall take effect 10 days following its enactment.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 14th day
of December, 2004.
