HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes2004-004 CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA PORT AND COMMERCE ADVISORY BOARD RESOLUTION NO. 2004-04 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, PORT AND COMMERCE ADVISORY BOARD, RECOMMENDING THE DISSOLUTION OF THE PORT AND COMMERCE ADVISORY BOARD AND RECOMMENDING THE SANCTIONING OF A NEW "PORT AND HARBOR COMMISSION" WHEREAS, the City of Seward has realized significant growth of its Port and Small Boat Harbor operations; and WHEREAS, the City of Seward desires to have a comprehensive Community Economic Development and Marketing Plan; and WHEREAS, the existing Port and Commerce Advisory Board operates in an advisory capacity only, without sufficient resources and authority to properly formulate and develop the necessary Community Economic Development and Marketing Plan, while acting as a liaison and advisory board to the City Council concerning Port and Small Boat Harbor Operations; and, WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City of Seward to have an empowered commission dedicated as a liaison between the public and City Council relating to operational matters of the Port and Small Boat Harbor without the burden of developing and initiating a Community Economic Development and Marketing Plan. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND RECOMMENDED BY THE PORT AND COMMERCE ADVISORY BOARD OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, THAT: Section 1. The City Council of the City of Seward dissolve the current Port and Commerce Advisory Board as previously established by resolution. Section 2. The City Council of the City of Seward create and empower a Port and Harbor Commission to oversee and facilitate the growth of the Cities Port and Small Boat Harbor. Section 3. The City Council of the City of Seward solicit applications from and appoint seven citizens of the City of Seward as Commissioners; to act on all matters pertaining to Port and Small Boat Harbor operations, as empowered and directed by the City Council.
