BACKGROUND & JUSTIFICATION: Volunteers from the City of Seward have prepared and submitted an application for the National Civic League’s (NCL) 2005 All-America City Award. Selected as one of the 30 finalists, the committee and other community members will travel to Atlanta, Georgia to present their application to the All-America City jury in June. Following their presentation is an awards ceremony where 10 finalists will be announced as 2005 All-America City Award winners. This volunteer committee has donated their time and energy in completing this difficult application. For the finalist presentation in Atlanta, they will need to purchase many supplies and materials. Some of the items needed include copies, promotional items to hand out, things needed to set up and operate a booth, and other miscellaneous items. It is recommended that the City Council help reimburse these volunteers for their time and money selflessly spent to promote Seward. If won again, Seward will receive the mark of distinction of being a three-time winner. According to the National Civic League, past winners have seen an increase in tourism as well as improved , grants, and bond ratings, community pride and community collaboration.
