CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION 2005-84
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, APPROVING THE PURCHASE OF A 2005 JEEP WRANGLER
UNLIMITED FROM LITHIA CHRYSLER-JEEP IN ANCHORAGE,
ALASKA IN THE AMOUNT OF TWENTY THREE THOUSAND AND TWO
DOLLARS ($23,002.00) AND APPROPRIATING TWENTY THREE
THOUSAND AND TWO DOLLARS ($23,002.00) FROM THE MOTOR POOL
RETAINED EARNINGS ACCOUNT
WHEREAS, the Seward Fire Department is responsible for mountain rescue on Mt.
Marathon and other neighboring mountains; and
WHEREAS, the current vehicle being used is a 1953 Willy's Jeep. The City mechanics
have stated the vehicle is no longer mechanically sound; and
WHEREAS, the Seward Fire Department has contacted numerous new and used car dealers
that sell vehicles meeting the needs of the fire department for rescue and other duties; and
WHEREAS, it is in the public's best interest to retain this emergency response service; and

WHEREAS, the Seward Fire Department has sufficient funds in the Motor Pool Retained
Earnings Fund to purchase the requested vehicle.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA that:
Section 1. Competitive procurement procedures for the purchase of the vehicle described
above are not required as per purchasing code 6.10.130 by finding that the public's best interest
would be best served by uninterrupted emergency service provided with the use of this response
vehicle.
Section 2. Calls were made to new and used car dealers throughout Kenai, Wasilla,
Anchorage and Fairbanks; providing them with specifications and requesting price quotes.
Section 3. Lithia Chrysler, Jeep of Anchorage provided the best value with regards to
specifications provided.
Section 4. Appropriate the amount of Twenty Three Thousand and Two Dollars
($23,002.00) from the Motor Pool Retained Earnings account 102-0000-3050 and transfer to the
equipment account 102-1020-5930.

Section 5. This resolution shall take affect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 12th
day September, 2005.
