CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION 2005-125
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE PAYMENT NOT TO EXCEED FIFTEEN
THOUSAND DOLLARS ($15,000.00). TO CMI FOR THE RENTAL OF AN
EXCAVATOR
WHEREAS, in September 2005 the Electric Department and the Public Works Department
shared the rental of an excavator to complete numerous projects; and
WHEREAS, an excavator was rented from CM! for thirty (30) days; and
WHEREAS, the number of new customer services and new subdivisions this Fall combined
with reduced staff, and favorable weather conditions has increased the number of days the excavator
is needed in order to maximize the number of projects completed before weather conditions prohibit
additional ground work; and
WHEREAS, the favorable weather conditions could not be foreseen; and
WHEREAS, the rental rate from CM! is well below the rates available locally.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA that:
Section 1. The City Council hereby authorizes the payment to CMI in an amount not to
exceed Fifteen Thousand dollars ($15,000.00).
Section 2. Funding is available from the Electric Department and Public Works Department
2005 Operating Budgets.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 14th day of
November, 2005.

Agenda Item: Excavator Rental from CMI
BACKGROUND & JUSTIFICATION:
The Public Works Department and the Electric Department were in need of an excavator
to complete several time sensitive projects, and agreed it would be a benefit to the City to
combine our rental needs in order to obtain more favorable rental pricing terms.
The Public Works Department researched rental costs both in Seward and Anchorage and
pursued the lowest cost alternative, and jointly rented an excavator.
The Electric Department has been the primary user of the excavator, and expects to be
able to use it later in the construction season, due to its size and power, as well as the
unforeseen favorable weather conditions. The additional use will cause the total rental
amount to exceed Ten Thousand dollars ($10,000.00).

FISCAL NOTE:
The rental cost will be borne both the Public Works and Electric Departments, from
within their 2005 Operating budgets.

City Council approve Resolution 2005-125, authorizing the City Manager to pay for
equipment rental in an amount not to exceed Fifteen Thousand dollars ($15,000.00).
