BACKGROUND S JLSTIPICATION:
Alaska Newspapers hie. provided a new advertising agreement and contract lur this coming year.
This ohligates the City to advertise hnm .lanuaiy 1, 20(IR to December 31. 3008 at 513.50 per
column inch fora 30 inch, half page calendar ad. This comes to a total of $375.011 plus a 55.U1i
notarized affidavit (proof oY publication) fee. for a total of 53R0.f10 per week. At this rate, the cost
+vill be just under 520,000 per year for advertising. 1Ne have budgeted S25,000 for 200R advertising.
Past synopsis:
--The rate per column inch was $7.31 for the years 21101 and 20112,
--The rate increased by 22 cents for the year 2003 to $7S3 per column inch.
--The rate for :.005 was S8.60 pzr column inch.
--Tlro rate rcnraincd 58.60 per column inch fur 2006, with an addition of column inches from 35 to
4U.
--The rate will increase to 510.00 per columw liunr January 1, 3007 to May 1, 2407, and increase
again to tit 2.00 per column inch beginning May 1, 2007 through We rouraiuder of the year. ~~'c w ill
not he held to a minimum numher of inches an~n+ore.
The rates increased dramatically for 2008, but Alaska Newspapers, Tne. has offered the ciq~ a 504%
price reduction for guaranteed advertisement each week by the City of Seward. The discounted rate
is 512.50 per culunnr inch for a 30 inch, half page ad each week. The cost is $375.00 per week, plus
a $5.00 notarized affidavit fee.
Per our city code, the city must advertise in a paper of local circulation, or "ne+vspaper of the city."
Please note the tcmrs of this contract have ahvays given the Alaska Newspapers Inc. the right to
