CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION 2008-056
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING A ONE YEAR CONTRACT FOR $449,472.00
WITH THE STATE OF ALASKA, DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS, TO
PROVIDE FOR OPERATING THE SEWARD COMMUNITY JAIL AND
HOUSING PRISONERS CHARGED AND/OR SENTENCED UNDER
ALASKA STATUTES
WHEREAS, the City of Seward has received a proposed one year contract from the State of
Alaska for the operation of the Seward community Jail; and
WHEREAS, the contract amount for the City of Seward is $449,472.00, to operate the
Seward Community Jail in accordance with the attached contract from July 1, 2008 through June 30,
2009; and
WHEREAS, the $449,472.00 is the same amount as the FY 2007 budget; and
WHEREAS, the amount of $449,472.00 falls short of covering even the City's direct cost by
$43,672.00, does not cover any of the City's indirect costs of $64,096.00, and does not include
compensation or reimbursement for the lease of space for the jail facility.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA that:
Section 1. The City of Seward hereby approves Resolution 2008-056, authorizing the. city
manager to enter into a one year contract for $449,472.00 with the State of Alaska; department of
Corrections in the form presented at this meeting, to provide for operating the Seward Community
Jail and housing prisoners charged and/or sentenced under Alaska Statutes.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this day of 23rd of
June 2007.
