RESOLUTION 2003-127
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, AMENDING RULE 37 OF THE CITY
COUNCIL RULES OF PROCEDURES DELETING GENDER
SPECIFIC WORDING AND ADDING REFERENCE TO SEWARD
CITY CODE
WHEREAS, the City Clerk's office has reviewed the Council Rules of
Procedures and would like to delete any gender specific wording throughout the City
Council Rules of Procedures manual; and
WHEREAS, the City Clerk's office wishes to add wording at the end of Rule 37
in the Council Rules of Procedures manual to reference City Code sections 2.12 and 2.13;
and
WHEREAS, the Clerk's office wishes to amend the City Council Rules of
Procedure to appear as follows (strike out = deletions, hold italics = additions):

RULE 37. If a vacancy occurs in the office of Council member, the Council may elect
some qualified person to fill such vacancy, the person elected shall hold office until a
successor is elected at the next regular election and properly qualified. In order to fill the
vacancy with the most qualified person available until an election is held, the Council
will widely distribute and publish a notice of the vacancy, the procedure and any
application form for applying. Each applicant will make a presentation to the Council
regarding his their qualifications to serve. The Council will then vote and sign ballots
provided by the City Clerk. The City Clerk will read each ballot aloud, will tabulate the
votes and announce the results to the Council. The Council may then, by motion and
voice vote, affirm the appointment of the candidate receiving the highest number of
votes. For time frames during a recall of an elective officer, and when vacancies can
he filled, see City Charter sections 2.12 and 2.13.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA that:
Section 1. The Seward City Council amends Rule 37 of the City Council Rules
of Procedures to appear as follows:

Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
