ORDINANCE NO. ~
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, REPEALING SEWARD CITY CODE
CHAPTER 5.40, VISITOR ASSESSMENT FEES
WHEREAS, in 1994, the Seward City Council enacted Seward City Code Chapter 5.40
which established a visitor assessment fee to be paid by all hotel, motel, inn, bed and breakfast, and
other overnight lodging businesses; and
WHEREAS, on October 3,1995, the voters of the City of Seward approved an initiative
ordinance establishing a four percent bed tax to be paid on room rental charges for all overnight
lodging within the City; and
WHEREAS, the 4% bed tax revenues will exceed the present visitor assessment fee and will
return to the City revenues to offset the impacts on city services caused by visitors to the community;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
HEREBY ORDAINS that:
Section 1. Chapter 5.40 of the Seward City Code is hereby repealed.
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect December 31, 1995.
ENACTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, this
27th day of November, 1995.
