SPECIAL MEETING
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Seward City Council will meet in a special meeting
on June 27, 2012 at 5:15 p.m. for the purpose of:
Resolution 2012 -047, Authorizing The Discharge Of Fireworks By The
Chamber Of Commerce During The 2012 Independence Day Festivities.
The meeting will be conducted in City Council Chambers, City Hall, 410 Adams Street,
Seward. All interested persons are invited to attend the special meeting; however executive sessions
are closed to the public.

RESOLUTION 2012 -047
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE DISCHARGE OF FIREWORKS BY TIIE
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE DURING THE 2012 INDEPENDENCE DAY
FESTIVITIES
WHEREAS, Seward City Code 10.10.040 prohibits the discharge of fireworks in Seward
unless specifically approved by the City Council; and
WHEREAS, the Chamber of Commerce will again sponsor a fireworks display on
Wednesday July 4, 2012, at 12:01 am with alternate dates of July 5, 6, 7 or 8, 2012; and
WHEREAS, the site for the discharge of the fireworks has been identified as the uplands
area south of the harbor and has been approved by the Fire Chief as required in City Code; and
WIIEREAS, the City has traditionally allowed the Chamber of Commerce to provide a
fireworks display within the City in conjunction with its Fourth of July festivities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY TIIE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA that:
Section 1. As a part of its Independence Day festivities, the Seward Chamber of Commerce
is authorized to discharge fireworks within the City at a time and place that has received the prior
approval of the City Fire Chief.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 27 day of
June, 2012.

BACKGROUND & JUSTIFICATION:
The Seward Chamber of Commerce is requesting permission from the City Council to hold a fireworks display
on Wednesday July 4 2012 at 12:01 am at the new breakwater area (uplands). If the weather is not
cooperative on the 4th the alternate dates proposed are Thursday July 5 th , 6th 7 or 8 2012.
Seward City Code 10.10.040 prohibits the discharge of fireworks in Seward unless specifically approved by the
City Council. The Council has traditionally allowed the Chamber of Commerce to provide an annual fireworks
display within city limits in conjunction with its Independence Day festivities. The fireworks display will be
presented by "Fire Art by Griz ".
The Chamber of Commerce will work directly with the Seward Fire Department to ensure the fireworks display
is presented in a safe manner. The location of the display has been reviewed and approved. The Chamber has
also stated that they will supply two guards to keep the public away from the set up and discharge area.
INTENT: Permit a fireworks display on the 4 of July, 2012 or alternate days if necessary.

Dear Dave,
The Seward Chamber of Commerce, CVB is requesting permission for a fireworks display.
Fire Art by Griz, Inc will be providing our fireworks exhibit this year on July 4th, 2012 at 12:01
am. Alternate or rain dates are 7/05, 7/06, 7/07, and 7/08.
We will be using the location agreed upon by the Chamber, the Harbormaster, and the
contractor which is in the new breakwater parking area south of the boat harbor. The contractor
will be responsible for providing sufficient staff for the approximate 20 minute display.
