Through: City Manager Jim Hunt From: Harbormaster Mack Funk Agenda Item: Amendment to an Engineering Contract for the construction management of the D -Float Replacement Project at the Seward Small Boat Harbor BACKGROUND & JUSTIFICATION: Now that the project is out to bid for the new D -float, the City needs a new contract with the engineer to manage the construction of this project. R & M Consultants has performed well during the design phase. When they were hired by the City in September 2012 it was anticipated that this contract would be necessary and they would be the most likely engineer given their expertise and effectiveness. The cost of the work is $190,528 and that represents approximately 8% of the $2.36 Million total estimated construction cost. There is an additional amount of $19,053 project overhead. INTENT: The Council Resolution will authorize the City Manager to execute the amendment to the engineering contract. The Harbormaster will serve as project manager. It is anticipated that the work will be completed by April of 2014. The harbor also has received a grant to construct the new D- Float in the amount of $1.18 Million and that will be matched with harbor funds to pay the construction contractor.
