BACKGROUND & JUSTIFICATION: Seward Community Library Museum was an early contributor to the Alaska Digital Archives, scanning, describing and uploading over 300 of our local historic photos to be included in the statewide historic photo database. Whereas SCLM was the first public contributor, there are now fifteen institutions adding content to the site. An opportunity to add Earthquake related material to a similar project with UAA Consortium Library Archives was presented to the library museum. This project is an effort to identify the numerous collections of '64 Earthquake photos and memorabilia in preparation for the 50 anniversary of the event. KMTACCA offers a grant to museums along the Heritage Corridor for program development. An application was submitted outlining a program to identify, document and scan Seward's earthquake photos and artifacts, detailing the need for someone to assist library museum staff while completing the work. The application was accepted. The grant will reimburse $3000 for an estimated 200 hours at $15 each for an assistant to help with the earthquake project 60% of the time and 40% of the time will be helping with regular duties at the museum.
