The Chamber Visitor Center, the cruise ship dock and the Derby booth are all
completely staffed for the summer — and it's a darn good thing because we are seeing a
lot of visitors!
The Port O'Call by the Golden Princess last week was a nice boost to local business.
Since the last time I was at the podium 8 new businesses have joined the Chamber.

We now can claim 399 members. Pretty sure we're going to have a party for Kris
Harris when she gets us to 400!
We've had almost 2,000 anglers enter the Halibut Tournament, Ermagene Aalund from
Fullerton, CA holds the lead with her 232.2 lb halibut she caught while fishing onboard
Aurora Charter's Orion.
The new Youth leader (as of Saturday) is Nathan Stiger of Anchorage. Nathan landed
his 191 lb fish while out with J Dock's Predator.
Three tagged fish have been caught — only one angler had an entry ticket and the
corresponding tag was good for $250.
Tourney ends this Friday. We often see the big $5000 fish come in the last day of the
tournament . . . just sayin' Ermagene!

Due to the uncharacteristic bear activity around the state, the MMRC has scheduled an
additional Safety meeting with the Fire Chief and those volunteering on the mountain
July 4th
All plans are moving along nicely for our biggest event of the year. Many "celebrity"
runners have registered — including the European champions from 2 years ago, Allie
Ostrander, Kikkan Randle, and last year's champs David Norris and Christy Marvin.
Like a lot of people, I'm star struck by the sheer athletic ability of these folks — but we
also have such tender spots in our hearts for our friends, neighbors, co-workers and
youngsters that have what it takes to get up and down that formidable mountain.

The three flower boxes at the west end of Port Ave really look nice — kudos on those!
Next Chamber lunch is July 14th — Curtis Thayer, CEO at Alaska Chamber will be our
guest speaker. Summer Lazenby, the new Kenai Peninsula Tourism Marketing Council
Executive Director will join us that day, so you all can meet her.
