www.pipeline.blue Blue Pipeline Incubator — resumes are coming in!
The ocean economy globally is estimated to double from $1.5 trillion to $3 trillion by 2030. Alaska is
positioned to take advantage of this "blue" growth through proactive investment in a new pipeline of
innovation and entrepreneurship. The Blue Pipeline is designed to support innovative startups in an industry
vital to Alaska's economy. It is a program of the Alaska Ocean Cluster Initiative, a hub of resources and
opportunities in Alaska's blue economy.

- The 91st Mount Marathon Race® definitely had some behind the scenes challenges — I think I heard that
the porta-potty pump truck had to outrun the Men's first wave racers! Yikes — can laugh now, right? But, all in
all, it was another incredibly wonderful event. No racers were injured or had extreme heat issues. Saw a lot
of scraped bums & legs from the snowfield. Denali Foldager-Strabel finished in 52 minutes flat for 2nd place
Women's division —set a new women's downhill record of 11:27

The Kenai Peninsula borough Assembly did NOT vote to overturn Mayor Charlie Pierce's veto of tourism and
school funding. The Kenai Peninsula Tourism Marketing Council is currently restructuring and figuring out how
to promote Alaska's Playground with $206,000 less this fiscal year. As Chamber Exec Director, I have a seat
on KPTMC's board of directors and we knew that if Pierce was elected we'd be in trouble. In prior years as an
Assemblyman, he did not support tourism funding.
What does this mean for the Seward area? It means that we'll work harder & smarter to make up for the lack
of peninsula -wide promotion. It means that we'll need to stretch our marketing dollars to go further and do
more. Most likely it also means that more attention to detail will be given to our signature events to ensure
they become as profitable as possible while keeping expenses in check. I mentioned last month that we're
adding one staff person to the Chamber team. An Events Logistics Coordinator will join us in September to
help accomplish all that we want to do.
